Using the Average Order Value attribute in segments
Average Order Value is a great attribute to use in segments where you want to target your high-value customers.
For example, you may want to create a segment of customers who have 2+ orders, and an Average Order Value of more than $200. This segment can then be used to target lookalikes in channels such as Facebook, Google, or TikTok Ads.
To create this segment, navigate to the Segment Builder and then add the following two attributes to the PROFILES MUST HAVE ALL OF THESE section of the builder:
- Average Order Value > Greater than or equal to > $200
- Total Orders > Greater than or equal to > 2
If you also want them to be active customers, you can add a third attribute: Order Date > In the last > 6 months.
This attribute can also be used in segment analysis. For example, you may want to see the Average Order Value of your newly acquired customers, compared to your high-value customers, to see if you're acquiring the kinds of high-spending customers you want.
Navigate to Compare and then select Segment. Add the following out-of-the-box segments:
- New customers: Last 30 Days
- Very high value (Top 20%)
Then click Generate Comparison.
You can search for the Average Order Value attribute to see the comparison between the two segments.
In the screenshot below, you can see that the Very high value customer segment has a much higher average order value, compared to the new customers you've acquired in the last 30 days. So you may want to think of ways to acquire new customers who'll spend more.
